Day 5: Around Ascona (Switzerland)
Today is our first “touring” day where we’re not trying to get to an overnight destination. It is just driving and exploring the area for the sake of it.
After a relaxing breakfast by the lake, we ask the valet to bring around our car and enjoy the view of the other cars being picked up by their owners – including a similar Targa to ours. Some interesting UK registration plates on display too!

Once those cars leave our own car is delivered.

As can be seen by our route map today, this is a simple loop route today – including taking the same ferry across the lake as we did yesterday.

Though it is forecast to rain today – with the Italian authorities warning of a thunderstorm – the morning is warm with the sun high in the sky.
We arrive at the same ferry terminal as yesterday.

And end up being first on-board again.

The ferry is busy today with young students from a nearby college.

The ferry moves surprisingly quickly once it gets going.
Crossing the lake
We wonder when the bell in front of our car gets rung?

While on-board we decide we’re going to drive to nearby Lake Lugano. With the PCM routing us through a quiet road surrounded by forest.

Despite some forecasts for rain later, the day remains warm and dry.

On reaching the lake, we pull in to soak up the views.

Watching this lake’s boat traffic pass quietly by.

As we get to late afternoon we head back to our hotel in Switzerland.

With thunderstorms forecast for this evening, we explore the town of Ascona around our hotel. It pitches itself as Switzerland’s only “beach resort”.

Later that evening, we grab a drink at our hotel and watch the lightning and thunder in the distance over Lake Maggiore.
