After a midnight check-in, we slept soundly in our comfy room and woke in time for breakfast.

Like many hotels in the United Kingdom, this one if very dog friendly which sometimes results in some unusual signs.

As we arrived in the darkness of the night, it is only now we realise what a lovely, calming and pleasant area this hotel is located in.

We load our car and stroll down to the Lakeside area where a regular tourist boat departs for Windermere.  This town, named after the lake it shares with the same name, is England’s largest.

Since we were driving past this town today we didn’t buy a ticket.

Take a few pictures of a Lesser Black-backed Gull perched on a nearby mooring post.

We spotted a sign for the nearby Lakeland Motor Museum, just three kilometres away.  Inside, we found a stunning collection of brightly coloured vintage cars.

The museum claims a total of 30,000 exhibits – though most we suspect are signs, posters and other artefacts.

We notice one solitary Porsche badge among the exhibits.

They also have a replica of the Campbell-Railton Blue Bird which was was Sir Malcolm Campbell's final land speed record car.

At 8.3 meters long, we were surprised at how large it was!

After the museum, it was time to fuel up – and we took the opportunity to stop off at a nearby Shell and grab some 99 octane petrol that our car prefers.

With the day warming up we dropped the roof down.

And we head down the narrow roads and lanes that make up The Lake District.
