Day 1: Dublin (Ireland) –> Newby Bridge (England)

We both finish up work a little early for the long weekend and pack up our 911 Targa for the weekend in The Lake District.

The car had been reporting that we were running a little low on oil, so we open the service flap and top it up before we set off.

It is a short hop to Dublin Port via the 4 km long Dublin Port Tunnel under the city.

Less than an hour after we leave our apartment, we're on-board the Stena Nordica, a relatively small ferry that is temporarily covering the Irish Sea route while the usual boat is undergoing repairs.

Due to the public holiday weekend the boat is busy with holidaymakers – like ourselves – but thankfully it is a very smooth and calm crossing.

We arrive into Holyhead slightly ahead of schedule at 19:45 and docked into the newly repaired port infrastructure that caused so much disruption last year.

We have a three hour 300 km drive across north Wales to Newby Bridge in the south of the Lake District for an overnight stop.

We chose our hotel here because of their flexibility to allow us to check-in after midnight when we expected to arrive.

Stats

Today we did 323 km over 4:15 hours, with an average speed of 86 km/h, consuming 8.8 litres/100km.
