Day 14: Oslo (Norway) –> Kiel (Germany)

Our route
Our route

Today is a very simple one ... make our boat to Germany that leaves Oslo at 14:00. As it is a short one kilometer to the port we check out of our hotel as late as possible.

We pop up out of our underground car park.

And almost immediately see our ferry in the distance. As we will be on this ferry for nearly 22 hours – we ring the Porsche Vehicle Tracking Service (PVTS+) in the United Kingdom and ask them to put our car into "transport" mode for the next day.

This prevents alarm activation when the car detects that it is moving without being switched on.

There is a relatively long wait to queue to get on board.

But eventually we drive onboard by the bow doors.

We've taken this ferry a number of times – but it is massive – it is the largest car ferry in the world – and can be confusing to find your way around.

Sailing up the Oslo fjord is always fun and beautiful, though it is very windy out on deck today. Hopefully its a calm enough crossing.

Later on the ship pushes through some light surface ice floating around the fjord.

Eventually the winds become too strong and they close off all access to the outside decks.

I fall asleep and don't wake for nearly 20 hours – it has been a long drive so far – while our co-driver gets herself some pizza and wine!
