Photography and hiking are the core focus of this week-long trip to The Peak District in England's stunning, gritstone-and-heather-covered national park.
Starting from our home in Dublin, we'll cross over to the United Kingdom via the very familiar three and a half hour crossing to Holyhead in Wales.
We might not be putting in the continent-crossing distances during this trip, but it will show what a brilliant adventure car the Porsche 911 Targa can be. It is perfectly scaled for narrow rural lanes, with plenty of depth in the frunk for our luggage, hiking boots, and photography gear.
While the Targa isn't a track-focused machine—though it remains plenty capable for casual circuit days—it is ultimately set up as a grand tourer, utilising a slightly softer suspension to elegantly manage the increased weight of its complex roof mechanism.
This exact configuration makes it an absolute masterpiece for the English countryside. Where ultra-stiff track cars would skitter violently over broken tarmac, cattle grids, and damp, undulating B-roads, the Targa connects with the landscape. It absorbs the imperfections of rugged moorland passes and tight limestone dales, offering all-wheel-drive security under rapidly changing northern skies.
