Day 1: Dublin (Ireland) –> Bakewell (England)

We had a relatively late 10:00 morning sailing to Holyhead this morning. Usually, we're leaving our apartment before dawn, but this time as we're leaving during a working day the crossing is a little later.

Also, because we're heading to the port in "peak hours" we avoid the handy Port Tunnel due to the toll costs being €13 up from the usual weekend rates of €3.

We arrive at Dublin Port in plenty of time and board our ferry.

As it is a daytime crossing for only 3.5 hours, we did not bother booking a cabin and instead head into the comfy Stena Plus lounge to grab some food and relax for what turns out to be a very smooth sea.

We arrive into Holyhead on time and disembark.

It is a relatively easy drive across familiar North Wales until we head into England and arrive into Bakewell, our base for the week.

We unpack the car and check-in to our hotel, the Rutland Arms. We're here for six nights, one of the longest times we've stayed in a hotel on a road-trip!

The hotel has limited parking so we decide to use the large town public car park – they have reasonably weekly rates – so we just need to pay once.

The walk back to our hotel is only about 500 meters and is very pleasant.

We head out for some food, arriving back to our hotel in darkness.
